...you can get confused.  You see many diamonds with the same color, clarity and cut grades but with huge differences in prices.  If you ask the "jewelry consultant" at these sites why these diamonds have such huge price differences, you get answers which don't make sense.  In reality, these sites just list diamonds from many different owners and mark up the owner's prices without knowing why one diamond costs more than another. 

This is not the way you should go about making such an important lifetime purchase.

A "jewelry consultant" who has never invested his own money cannot truly understand what makes a diamond a desirable investment. He can only give you a simplistic statistical analysis of the diamond.  He often will give you the wrong advice on a choice of diamonds because he doesn't really understand the difference between one diamond and another.  He may use terms which sound impressive (like "ideal cut" or "signature-ideal cut") but he cannot tell you what the diamond looks like, or what the  nature of the inclusions  is because the diamond is only on his list and not in his safe.  He can't tell you if the diamond is Pretty because he has never seen it.  He can't tell you if this "ideal cut" diamond is prettier than one which is not "ideal"; which may very well be the case because "ideal" is just a statistical classification. You need more than that to make the right choice.
