A. Fishman & Son wants to be your jeweler for life. For that reason, we've implemented policies to help you shop with confidence not only today, but years down the line.
The reason we can offer both Upgrade and Buyback policies is because we own our diamonds and only sell diamonds we are willing to put our own money into. While other sites seem to offer very generous Upgrade policies, we believe that our policy is economically sound and transparent. I still believe that there is no such thing as a "free lunch" and that Upgrade policies which are overly generous are something to take with a grain of salt.
Since we know what we are buying and selling, we know that the diamond we have sold to you is desirable and we have confidence in our diamonds. We are happy to have them back in our inventory.
All of our diamond jewelry is manufactured using the highest quality materials and is inspected prior to shipment.
We stand behind everything we sell and warrant that all items will be free from any manufacturing defects at the time of delivery. In the event that there is ever a problem with your jewelry, it can be mailed back to our offices for inspection. If the problem is deemed to be from a structural defect, we will repair or replace the item at no charge to you during the first 12 months after purchase. If the damage is caused by normal wear-and-tear, then our factory will repair your jewelry at a cost to be determined.
You may also return your jewelry to our offices for prong tightening at any time. If the diamond became loose for no obvious reason, we will tighten the diamond at no cost to you. If we determine that the diamond became loose due to some stress or other action caused by any outside force, there will be a charge for our labor to repair and retighten the diamond. We will also repolish, rhodium plate and clean your A. Fishman & Son Jewelry one time during the first 12 months after your purchase. Any additional labor requests during the first 12 months after purchase, and all labor after the first 12 months, will be charged at cost.
In all cases where there will be a labor charge, we will consult with you about the cost and obtain your approval to proceed before we undertake any repairs or labor .
Because we own our own diamonds and invest in our own inventory, we know what we buy and what we sell. If for any reason you need to sell your diamond, we will buy back your loose diamond purchase for at least 70% (or possibly more) of the original purchase price, within the first 3 months from the date of purchase. After the first 3 months, we will evaluate the current market price of diamonds and make a judgement as to a purchase price based on current market conditions. The reason for this second policy after 3 months is to assure ourselves and you that the diamond market has not changed in a material way. Since we have no control over market or world economic conditions, and because our margins are small, we cannot buy back diamonds at a price over the current market price. Accordingly, we will evaluate the market conditions and make an appropriate offer to you. This could result in a greater or lesser percentage of your original purchase price.
The diamond must be in original condition and accompanied by the original laboratory grading document. In a market that usually only pays 40-50 cents on the dollar, this policy can save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars down the line. Please note that our buyback program only applies to loose GIA graded diamonds and does not apply to engagement or other fine jewelry.
Any loose diamond purchased from A. Fishman & Son can be exchanged for a replacement diamond. The diamond being upgraded must be in original condition and accompanied by original laboratory grading document. Unlike other companies, we do not charge a restocking fee, or require that the upgrade be better in size, color, or clarity.
The credit we will offer you for your original diamond will be based on our evaluation of the current market price of similar diamonds. The reason for this is to assure ourselves and you that the diamond market has not changed in a material way. Since we have no control over market or world economic conditions, and because our margins are very small, we cannot trade-in a diamond for upgrade at a price over the current market price for like diamonds.
While other sites may appear to offer very generous upgrade policies, we believe that our policy is economically sound and transparent. I believe that there is no such thing as a "free lunch" and that upgrade policies which are overly generous are something to take with a grain of salt. I have researched and analyzed the more common upgrade policy of a 100% credit forever if the new purchase is at least 2x the old purchase. It only makes economic sense if profit margins are close to 100%, if the seller can resell the original diamond back to his original vendor, or if the seller can "tack on" to the price of the new diamond so that he doesn't give up the profit from the first sale. These are not fair or transparent policies. Be cautious about overly generous upgrade policies.
Please note that the credit policy applies to the diamond only and not to the ring setting which does incur wear and tear over the course of time or to any sales tax which may have been collected on your purchase.
